CU MAC Demands Accountability, End to U.S-Funded Aggression: Statement On Israel’s Attacks on Iran [6.16.25]

Starting June 13, Israel carried out airstrikes on over 150 Iranian sites—nuclear facilities, residential buildings, even a children’s hospital in Tehran. Champaign-Urbana Muslim Action Committee (CU MAC) joins officials across the world in condemning these attacks. We echo the concerns of International Atomic Energy Agency head, Rafael Grossi, who said nuclear facilities “must never be attacked” and such strikes have “serious implications for nuclear safety, security and safeguards, as well as regional and international peace and security.”

As always, we condemn attacks on hospitals. Healthcare workers, patients, children are not targets.

Countries around the world advised “maximum restraint” from both parties after the initial attack on June 13. For the past 20 months, Israel has shown no restraint in its relentless bombardment of Gaza; we believe they are unlikely to show restraint anywhere else. Israel operates with total impunity—backed and bankrolled by the United States. Since 2023, the Illinois State Treasurer, Michael Frerichs, alone has invested over $140 million of public funds in Israel Bonds.

We are now witnessing the consequences of unchecked militarism.
As Americans we are complicit.
As members of the global community, we are complicit.

We granted Israel impunity in its assault on Palestinians; this attack on Iran is one of the many ripples of this sanctioning of brutal violence.

Beyond suggestions of “maximum restraint,” when it comes to nuclear war, global media and politicians have been silent about Iran, especially the attack on the children’s hospital.

CU MAC reiterates that no lives are disposable, even as the Israeli Occupation, backed by the United States, does its best to dehumanize Muslims.

As Americans, we refuse to remain silent.

We demand the U.S. government immediately halt all military aid, weapons transfers, and financial investments to any regime that escalates conflict, violates international law, and puts the world on the brink of nuclear war—including Israel.

CU MAC calls for immediate de-escalation, true accountability, and an end to the cycle of violence enabled by U.S. complicity.
