Champaign-Urbana, IL – Champaign-Urbana Muslim Action Committee (CU MAC) supports the Global Sumud Flotilla on its mission to break the siege of Gaza. We stand with others who refuse to accept Israel’s reign of terror, and applaud the Flotilla’s perseverance against psychological operations.
On September 8 in Tunisian waters, the boat known as the “Family” ship traveling under a Portuguese flag was hit by a drone strike. The second strike, on September 9, hit the “Alma”, flying under a British flag. Alhamdulillah, no one was injured in either strike.
The multiple drone strikes on the Global Sumud Flotilla are psychological terror operations, or military tactics of psychological manipulation. The Global Sumud Flotilla refuses to let acts of aggression deter them from their mission of breaking the siege in Gaza.
The Flotilla was attacked two nights in a row to send a message. All Israeli strikes around the region are committed with one purpose: to stop people from defending, discussing, or aiding Palestinians.
Thiago Avila, from the Global Sumud Flotilla reminds us: “Keep your eyes on Gaza, because when they attack a humanitarian mission like this, it is because they don’t want people to look at what they are doing in Gaza.”
The members of the Flotilla refuse to be deterred by these terror tactics. Instead, they remind us why they sail. For nearly two years, the world has witnessed Israel starve Palestinians, bomb civilian infrastructure, target hospitals, murder thousands of children, and displace millions.
We support the efforts of the Flotilla to break the siege, create a humanitarian corridor, and prevent Israel from continuing genocide with impunity. Inspired by the Flotilla, we will continue to talk about, support, and fight for Palestinian self-determination.
We realize that the Israeli occupation creates psychological operations and propaganda because our campaigns are working. The narrative is changing in favor of the Palestinian movement.
We hope the people in our community will join us in boycotting Israeli goods and continuing to apply pressure in any way available to us to stop these acts of Israeli terror.
