CU MAC Raises the Alarm As Gaza Starves [4.28.25]

CU Muslim Action Committee (CU MAC) warns Champaign-Urbana and all elected officials that Gaza has “officially run out of food” as a direct consequence of Israel’s inhumane blockade on the Gaza Strip along with its incessant bombing for over a year and a half.

Nearly a year ago, in March of 2024, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) warned of imminent famine in the Gaza Strip if conditions did not change. Last week, the World Food Programme (WFP) announced it had “delivered its last supplies to meal kitchens” as well as exhausting all food parcels.

“More than 116,000 metric tons of food assistance – enough to feed one million people for up to four months – is positioned at aid corridors and is ready to be brought into Gaza by WFP and food security partners as soon as borders reopen.” But, Israel’s complete blockade of the Gaza Strip has prevented the entry of all essential items: food, water, medical supplies, and fuel.

CU MAC calls on every individual of conscious to act now. Dua Aldasouqi, a member of CU MAC and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, warns “we have reached the point of no return, Palestinians in Gaza were barely surviving on the dwindling food stores with many resorting to spoiled food, scavenging, and slaughtering animals like donkeys and turtles.” Estimates suggest tens of thousands of Palestinians have already died due to starvation in the Gaza Strip and that number will increase exponentially if Israel is not forced to allow aid in.

We urge every community member to speak up today, Palestinians in Gaza may not have tomorrow.

CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TODAY

Find your representative here: https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member and call them using the script below:

“Hi, my name is [name], and I’m a constituent of yours from [city, state].

I’m calling to urge [representative] to push for and publicly call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The violence in Gaza has already resulted in at least tens of thousands of lives lost and millions displaced, with the area recently officially running out of food aid entirely.

It has gotten so bad that many aid groups have had to withdraw due to Israel’s indiscriminate destruction — and yet the U.S. continues to support Israel. We need our leadership to have the courage to prioritize human rights and peace, especially during these turbulent times.

Please push for an end to the violence and for humanitarian aid to reach those who need it.

Thank you for your time.”
