CU MAC Urges Representative Nikki Budzinski to Vote NO On IGO Anti-Boycott Act [5.5.25]

CU Muslim Action Committee urges Representative Nikki Budzinski to vote no on H.R 867, International Governmental Organizations Anti-Boycott Act. H.R. 867 is a danger to First Amendment rights and American democracy.

“H.R. 867 would expand the Anti-Boycott Act of 2018 by criminalizing compliance with or support for boycotts called for by international governmental organizations (IGOs). Under this law, American individuals, businesses, or advocacy organizations could face civil penalties, criminal fines of up to $1 million, and even imprisonment of up to 20 years for aligning with internationally-backed calls to boycott Israel or companies complicit in its human rights abuses.”

H.R. 867 threatens the ability to protest via boycott, a foundation of our rights. It is an incredible overreach of government and criminalizes those following the guidelines of International Government Organizations like the United Nations and it’s agencies like the World Food Programme and the World Health Organization, the International Criminal Court, or the International Court of Justice.

“The right to boycott is an intrinsic part of the First Amendment and a cornerstone of American democracy – from resisting British colonial rule to supporting civil rights and opposing apartheid in South Africa. That right must not be infringed.”

Representative Budzinski must vote no to protect the rights of her constituents.

CU MAC encourages all constituents in IL 13th Congressional District to call Representative Budzinski and urge her to vote NO on H.R. 867.

Sample Script:

“I’m calling to urge Rep. Budzinski to vote no on HR 867. It is government overreach and a threat to our constitutional right to free speech and peaceful protest. Punishing Americans for aligning with calls for human rights accountability sets a dangerous and un-American precedent. Giving away our individual freedoms to foreign interests betrays the very principle of putting America first.”
